Reggimenti di Dragoni Austriaci della Guerra dei Sette Anni, 1756–1763
Austrian dragoni regiments consisted of ten dragoni e due grenadier companies, formed in six squadrons of due companies each. The elite horse grenadier squadron often fought detached from its parent reggimento, either in the advance guard of an army, o as a mounted element of the Austrian grenadier corps. The dragoni pictured here are from Dragoner-Regiment Johann agosto Herzog zu Sachsen-Gotha. These 40 mm soldatini have been cast from Prince August moulds. The soldatini are painted con artist oils, e they are based on an upscaled 100 x 100 mm cavalleria brigade stand compatibile con the Volley & Bayonet game system. The unit represents a cavalleria brigade of 1000 to 1500 men.
In 1758, an additional reggimento cavalleggeri Jung-Löwenstein was formed as part of Dragoner-Regiment Christian Fürst zu Löwenstein-Wertheim. This formation was separated from its parent reggimento by decree dated 22 marzo 1759, ed increased to ten companies, to satisfy the increased demand for cavalleria leggera. In 1760, Dragoner-Regimenter Herzog von Württemberg, Sachsen-Gotha, Jung-Modena, Zweibrücken, e Erzherzog Joseph, were converted to cavalleggeri for the duration of the war.
