Excellent choice of subject, Airfix Fanteria Nordista was unique in this scale when it appeared on the market in 1962. While there are more detailed ed accurate Confederate figure sets today, these Airfix soldatini are still an excellent choice for giocatori wargame e dioramisti.
Good detail, folds in the clothing, ammunition pouches, canteens, straps, e muskets are clearly defined ed easy to paint. An ink wash will bring out the folds in jackets e trousers very nicely. The soldatini are cast in blue plastic, e they may be speedpainted by dipping them in a mixture of polyurethane varnish ed ivory black artist oils, after the essential details have been painted in.
Excellent marching e fighting poses, which are nicely compatibile con eachother. The Airfix Nordistas are anatomically correct, compared to other soldatini which are much taller e too long-legged for the period.
Good value for money. Giocatori di wargame may use most of the 48 soldatini in questa scatola to create fanteria stands for Fire e Fury e similar games. There are enough soldatini of each pose to form reggimenti marching, standing at attention, firing, ed advancing. I due pose proni possono essere convertite in soldatini caduti.
Six of the eleven poses may be converted to portabandiere simply by removing the musket o the officer’s sword, e pushing a pianowire flagpole through one o both hands. These conversions are very attractive, ed it’s a good thing that Airfix did not eliminate any of the fanteria poses to include a portabandiera in this set.
The marching e parading soldatini wear full packs which were quickly discarded on campaign. It was much more practical to carry equipaggiamento personale inside a blanket-roll worn across one shoulder. The fighting soldatini have left their blanket-rolls in camp. Clearly, this was an excellent decision made by Airfix designers e sculptors. Many other manufacturers have been less clear about which campaign o combat situation they want their soldatini to portray, e the resulting figure sets often contain an improbable mixture of men con incompatible gear, some in shirt sleeve order, others wearing raincoats, a few fighting con full packs, e the rest in skeleton equipaggiamento. The trouble con the odd poses is that they cannot be used in wargame formations o dioramas. They simply stand out too much, making the viewer wonder why one man is wearing his raincoat when the rest of the unit seems to be enjoying the warm weather. Unless they are marching o standing at attention, unique soldatini con raincoats o wearing full marching gear cannot even be used to form reggimenti of their own, because these units appear to be unrealistically choreographed.
Acceptable casting quality. Some flash e prominent linee di stampo devono essere tolto prima di dipingere. We recommend the Rai-Ro ZEP-70 heated spatula to remove mould lines by blending them into the figure.
The fanti incorrectly wear due ammunition pouches on the front of their waist-belts, when they should have a small cap pouch to the right of the belt buckle, ed a large ammunition pouch behind the right hip.
The haversack behind the left hip looks like it might be an ammunition pouch, but this is the wrong place for it. Apparently, the Airfix sculptors did not know that a musket is loaded con the right hand e that the ammunition pouch must be accessible in front o behind the right hip.
There are no bayonets on the muskets, although the due men engaged in hand-to-hand combat really should have their bayonets fixed. One man has a bayonet scabbard, the others do not.
The officer’s pistol holster is worn incorrectly, con the butt facing backwards.

- Fanteria Confederata, 1861–1865
Airfix Fanteria Nordista is a must-have per giocatori wargame interested recruiting a variety of fanteria brigades for their games. Mounted on Fire e Fury fanteria stands, these Nordistas actually look much more convincing ed in-period than many of their more recently developed brothers in arms.
